Keeping Active During the Christmas Holidays

Posted in Fitness @ Dec 9th 2013 11:07am - By Exclusively You

Christmas can be a time where we laze around, over indulge and eat too much of the naughty stuff. It IS possible to stay active, maintain balance and still enjoy the festive season period guilt free... Here are some great options, so there are no more excuses!

Naturally we are all busy buying gifts and running errands.

   •     Take the stairs instead of the escalator or elevator.

   •     When shopping, park as far away as you can for the extra walk.

   •     Pack yourself a healthy lunch or snacks like salad sandwiches, fresh fruits, raw nuts or vegetables while shopping. This will prevent you from buying foods at take-away or fast food stores.

   •     Take a bottle of water with you to stay hydrated and stay away from coffee or caffeinated drinks that can cause dehydration.

Being in a hot climate at Christmas can be great fun. There are plenty of great outdoor activities for the whole family to enjoy.

   •     Frisbee’s are great fun for  the whole family. A game of Ultimate Frisbee can be enjoyed by those of you who are a little more competitive.

   •     A day out at a water or theme park is also good for people of any age. There is a variety of activities to be enjoyed by all. You tend to be walking for most of the day which is great exercise. If you don’t enjoy white knuckle rides, you can watch your children having fun. The walk and sunshine will do you good.

   •     Especially here on the Gold Coast, we have beautiful beaches. Again, a Frisbee can be great fun, as can a cricket or a baseball bat and a tennis ball or simply taking a dip in the water.

   •     Just taking a nice stroll along the beach or in the country-side in the morning or afternoon breeze can be good exercise and deeply relaxing for everyone.

And remember if you maintain a healthy balanced lifestyle 364 days of the year, you can enjoy your christmas dinner stress and guilt free!
